Hi there
When is cod season over this year?
Also, anyone have an easy link for crabbing rules? Specifically, I need to aquaint myself with size and sex rules for Dungies as this is my first year going out for crabs.
Is it true that I need a crab measure for everyone on my boat?
Also, am I correct that there are year round and no limit rules for Sand Dabbs?
Finally, as to the mechanics of bringing up the pot, I am not as young as I used to be and am wondering how tough it is pulling up a pot by hand. If it is not recommended, anybody have an inexpensive suggestion for how to bring them up? I dont have a windlass

cod season ends on the last day of december for boaters
ling cod ends on the last day of november
on a private boat you may take 10 dungies of at least 5 3/4" between the horns
there is no law saying you can not keep females
but that is like shooting your self in the foot
just let the girls go
they have a wider flap on their underside than the males
i saw only 1 female last weekend and she was carring eggs
i have 2 guages on my boat but i think you could get away with just one
the rules say a measuring device
tape measure?
dollar bill is 6" long will that work as a measuring device?
as for the dabs
i am not sure about limits and am still looking for a spot out of bodega to find them (hint, hint, how about some #'s someone)
pots get heavy after a while
how many do you have and how much do they weigh
you can use the swell to help pull but that also takes time
pull on the down and hold on the up
i built my pot puller and it works great at just under 100' min
my next puller will be built for speed
you can purchase a puller for about $500.00

You would be best served studying up on the regs. Pick up a copy in most any tackle shop and keep it in your tackle box. You can also see the link below. Almost anytime there is a regs question on any fishing site I visit, the guidance is always suspect. Learn them yourself and control your own destiny! Now go get 'em!

P.S. Re: Dungies, regs are different for sport and commercial, and even sport on a party boat vs. sport on a private boat. And yes, everyone fishing/crabbing needs a measuring device (but you will read that for yourself, right!).

Alright, I'll save you some time...Page 38 & 39 for the Dungies, and no limit on Sand Dabs. ;)
