Dunsmuir is The Bomb!

As posted by Siskiyoufisherman earlier, Jake and I made the trek on Friday to Dunsmuir to check out the Upper Sacramento. Brad, thanks so much for taking us on a guided tour of the best holes on the river! And what a great little town (with a special nod to the Cornerstone Bakery for lunch). Walking the railroad tracks in a town with a big dose of 1950's charm, I felt like I was living a scene from "Stand by Me". And the fishing was off the hook! Here are some of the bigger fish we caught, with the biggest going 4 lbs (we also lost several fish over 3 lbs):

This sure is great to hear. I was on the Upper Hat the day of the Dunsmuir train tragedy back in the early 90's. It was said then that it would take twenty years for it to come back. I know it has been back for awhile now, but posts like these are great.

Way to go Paul and Jake!!! Friggin awesome. Now I wish I would of spent an entire day there fishing instead of a couple of hours passing through on a bike.

You guys did great. So nice to see the giant grins on everyone's faces. Maybe I need to take a camping trip!

Pauls 4lb fish made the longest run up river I ever saw. We had no net and when we reached for it it made about a 20 yard run. With a small barbless hook and 4lb line I thought it was gone especially when it ran back so fast the line went slack we all thought it got away. To are surprise it was still hooked and trashing at our feet. Pure excitement. I had fun fishing with them.

RideNFish, we did well on Panther Martins, but most of the bigger fish came on small jigs. Brad also mentioned a #3 Mepps spinner as a strong producer. We also saw worms catching plenty of fish.

+1. Prior to the spill in 91 the Upper Sac was one of the best if not the best river in the state for trout and fly fishing. It is definately back in spades. It is green and beautiful.
