Iím a newbie to Trout fishing and I would say a novice overall with fishing in general. We will be shore fishing, for shore, as I am sans boat. I would appreciate any and all tips, tricks, teachings, tools, and tackle experienced folks make me aware of to make this trip a rousing success for us.

Thank you in advance for anything you can tell me.

Union Valley is more of a small mouth bass factory, so I'd ditch the trout gear and bring tube jigs, drop shot stuff, and lipless crankbaits and target rocky areas/points. My buddy went up last weekend and banged out 20 smallies, a few of them were pretty decently sized.

theres a ton of trout in there as well as kokes and macks. if fishing from the bank a regular sliding sinker setup with power bait works well. find a point or a dropoff and you should have sucess. if no bites in a couple hours move around. and you dont necessarily have to cast out far at this lake. lots of fish cruising the shallows two years ago when we camped
