45 albacore to 28#, 50-55 hits, 45 hook-ups, no lost fish. Terry Clark invited me join him, Ron Retzlaff and Maki for a Fort Bragg albacore outing. This was my first California albacore outing. Ron & I brought 200# of ice. Terry really knows tuna, how to rig his 24 Seaswirl Striper for albacore trolling. At times we had 10 rigs out. Terry went 30 and 50 miles out, found 58.8-60* water and we hooked up in both locations. He trolled at 7 knots using feathers, Zukers and Rapalas. All lures, colors worked though early with overcast skies the purple/silver feathers worked best. We had 2-3 singles, 3-4 doubles, one 5 on/landed and out last stop was 6 on/landed. We had to leave fish biting because we had used all of our on-board fish storage areas and ice. Note: We saw a 6-7 Blue shark at out last stop where the water was clear to 40-60 down! 11 hours (4:45 a.m. - 4 p.m., 4 hours motoring, 7 hours trolling), 108 miles. Water 59.8-60*, very little debris, as said clear to 40-60 down. Air 60-82*. Sky high overcast to clear. Wind 0-5 knots! Sunrise 6:50, % moon visible 65%. Thanks for the invite Terry, this was one of those very memorable days. I had a great time with you, Ron & Maki. I appreciate Terry taking the time to explain and re-explain how to move about the boat, react to hook-ups, how to take in rigs and in what order and how to put out the different rigs and in which order. By mid-outing the four of us had become a fairly proficient crew.
