Deep sea fishing
I've been noticing that HMB is all relatively shallow but that off Santa Cruz and Monterey it gets pretty deep pretty quickly. Is the fishing different at the deeper depths? Squid would be cool.

Re: For GPS/Charts/Sonar, which is better - iPad vs Console Mounted Fishfinder?
Cool I'll check it out. I'm also talking about Raymarine's Wifish which would give the phone the transducer and sonar.

For GPS/Charts/Sonar, which is better - iPad vs Console Mounted Fishfinder?
I can imagine the future will have more options when it comes to your typical electronic suite for the phone or tablet. I'm looking at the available console mounts on the market and the screens...

What else can you go for off the coast? Where is the tuna?
I've got an 18er and been curious how the fishing might be a few miles out from HMB or the gate. How far do you need to go for the albacore or other fun species?

Smelt for bait
I was casting out a lure and snagged a top/jack smelt that was a nice size and looked beautiful, so I sliced it in half and threw both pieces on a hook. I caught fish all day on all sorts of rigs but...

Re: Salmon looks and tastes like trout?!
Yep I gave them 2 things: 1) the dried out salmon from smoking for 10 hours at 150 degrees and 2) the belly meat I literally cooked up for them in a pan until fully cooked.
I love my dogs and... -

Well for instance if I don't have linear mode on and I go to click on one of the replies, I may not see all the replies to the original thread and miss something.
Thanks. -

How is half moon bay and ocean fishing from the berkeley bay?
I have mostly fished the flats or shelves within the SF/Berkeley bay for multi-species and like to use a driftball with two herrings on a halibut/striper rig. Is it unwise to use the same method for...

Haha thanks it was a nice one. It did try to shake the hook rather slowly, you could see it's head going back and forth almost like a parade wave. My dogs have been loving the less desirable cuts,...

Re: Best place to launch a boat?
I guess what's confusing for me is that it says in Pillar Point state marine you can take pelagic by trolling and dungeness. But are there fish that are not pelagic out there? What about rock crabs?...
