    Re: Salmon opener

What was the depth like along this route. I'm hoping it's deeper than 7-9 feet like I remember it last year.

    Re: Smoking Salmon

I find if I leave the pieces thicker, like your top piece, I cannot get that flavorful dried consistancy like I think you are talking about, that you can take with you and not worry so much about...

    Re: Smoking Salmon

Are you doing it at the lowest temp you can and then turning up the temp at the end to get the fish up to the "safe" 165 degrees for eating? Or do you keep the temp low the whole time and not do a...

Re: Sac @ AR mouth report

Was everyone after shad??? I was up at Verona and could not buy a shad bite. I was thinking maybe they had already blown through for the year.

Your carp is actually a sucker fish. I used to see some huge ones snorkling the American river.

    Re: weekend wrap up

So it sounds like even if you go where you think there are fish, you don't just park and cast. You try to verify there are some fish.

I do have the Navionics. Use it all the time. It really is...

    Re: weekend wrap up

    Nice!

Do you roam around hunting for the fish, or just go to what you know are established spots?

I roamed around the outgoing end of New York Slough, the top of Brown Island, Broad Slough,...

Looks like a Crucian carp. Someone was recently asking about them and where to find them.

    Re: Impeller replacement

How old is that impeller, and how much use does the motor see? I replace mine at about two years and they tend to look almost new. Granted, I don't live on the water, but I put my share of time in....

    Re: Trolling Spinners with downriggers

Another thing to think about is the downrigger ball may adjust for the depth under the boat, but the lure is what, 50 to 100 feet behind the boat. Say the water depth quickly drops off from 15 to 30...

    Re: Damn they're tasty

Learn to debone them and smoke them. Easily as good as salmon, if not better. I know...sacrilege, but based on my last batch, totally true.

    Re: Responsibilty for boat wakes

I don't understand how people just can't figure out that slowing down to "max wake speed" is not doing anyone a favor. It's like they slow down thinking "Look at me being considerate", and they are...

    Re: They’re herrreree

Yeah, I have a brine that I soak it in for 1 to 2 days (length depends on the size of the meat chunks). Dry on racks for 4 to 6 hours to get a nice pellicle, and then into the smoker for a few hours...

I got these on Saturday. The big striper I'm guestimating at about 6 pounds.

    Re: 5/1 & 5/2 below Verona

Totally agree on this. I make up stretchy gauze balls full of whatever bait I'm using and sew the end closed with the circle hook. The big o'l ball of bait hangs below the hook so they have to take...

    Re: 5/1 & 5/2 below Verona

Were any of the boats catching shad. Last year I did not catch a single shad there from the boat, and saw very few others even trying there last year. The year before it was just the opposite.

I managed three this weekend in the Garcia Bend area. Had a few more bites that did not stick. The first two, and my first of the year, came at the same time. One on each jig, a true double....

    Re: Below Discovery Park 4/22/2018

Plus, those loops are really hard to tie with light line.

Spreaders might be interesting. I would try making some out of really light wire.
