Re: Sherman Island
Happens from time to time. They seem to stick in the fins. I think they get caught in the line and they get hooked as it pulls across similar to lining salmon. Certainly nothing intentional but an...

I’ll take that slow day of fishing anytime. Nice job.

Pretty close to a perfect day. Way to go with getting mother-in-law brownie points, and getting the little one involved too.
Congrats on the nice fish and time with the family. I'm jealous. -

I frequently get the impression the only thing some folks like better than catching fish, is griping about not catching fish. He ain't happy unless he ain't happy syndrome.....

I haven’t been up in a couple of months, but Smud is very good about keeping it plowed. I would expect to use the lower ramp this time of year. I prefer it, as the upper has a cross slope to it.

I'm by no means an expert, just what I've read over the years and experienced. There are so many variations on runs and timing, it can make one's head spin. Historically, the Sac had some salmon in...

Re: any steelhead yet???
There is a reason for the American River fish being a later run than the Feather and Sac. When the dams went in, the American river steelhead fishery went to nearly zero. They used Eel River...

Can’t argue with the recommendations provided, but you should know one of those outfits runs about $300 more than the other. They’ll both work, as would yours, just a matter how much you have to...

Re: How does west coast shad run compare to the east coast?
I believe the shad in Millerton and San Luis he is referring to are landlocked above the dam. Never fished them in those lakes, but have read a bit about it.
The fish in the river systems (Sac,... -

Lawson's Landing has them too if you didn't already find some, and are still over there.

Re: Closing the East Carson 11/15/19
Never know what the weather will ultimately be, but Hwy 88 is nothing to mess with in the snow. They plow it, but not as quick as they do 80 and 50. It’s also prone to big dumps.

Re: Trolling the Sac River for Stripers
I think you’ve got the same idea I do. You’re right to point out it being tough to troll close to the bottom in deeper areas. You’re not going to catch many fish trolling 10-12’ deep in 30’ of...

Clouser minnow pattern in white with some chartreuse is the Anchovy imitation equivalent of white pickups at the sportsman show. They're everywhere, and work well.

Most striper reports from Tomales come on live bait or artificial lures cast or trolled. Seems bait caught fish are more of bycatch of guys fishing for halibut. That said, anything is possible.
