They're out there. I've had great success that time of day, just gotta about homeless camps. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190903/eeefa40ff71a70f1c6fb8fd27a868d7c.jpg

    Re: Sac on Sunday

Was out around Paradise Beach this past Sunday for 3 hrs. They were there, including keeper size. If you have a boat, they're right in the middle in the deep pools, especially as the day got hotter.

    Re: Grouse Lake or Winnemucca

You're right, I had 89 and 88 reversed. I backpack out there a lot and can tell you that 89 is much quicker than 88. Plus free parking off 89.

Here's a shot I caught of an Osprey diving and...
  5. Re: In search of small panfish lakes within a hour of Sacramento

Take them to one of the Fish in the City clinics. They are currently planting catfish. They provide rods and bait, kids only fishing first four hours. Check out their website, lots of local ponds...

    Re: Grouse Lake or Winnemucca

You want to park at Luther Pass, 88. it's a quick hike, with some elevation, but not much. I guess elevation is relative, I've done Mt. Whitney. Anyway, it's only 3.7 miles from the TH to...

    Re: Grouse Lake or Winnemucca

I've visited Round Lake plenty of times, have often watched the Osprey circling, 3 to 4 at a time, then diving and pulling out a nice trout.

I was up by Kirkwood this weekend and caught 3 nice...

    Re: American run

I was out today from 630 am till 3 pm. Plenty of shad in the river . Was on the Sunrise pedestrian bridge, saw big schools underneath. Boaters caught 40+. Early morning and evening bites still...

    Re: American run

I've been catching a ton all along the American, maybe bad timing? The bite really picks up in the evening.

    Re: Beginner need help

With the water high and murky, the stripers are very close to shore. We've had good luck from the bank/shore casting ~10-15 feet out, blood worms. Any farther out and current is too strong and the...

    Re: Sacramento River Boat Launches

I biked through the Miller launch last weekend and it was open. Just a sign that says to be careful out there :)

Re: Can't wait for Shad! Getting that Itch!

They're here now on the Sac River. The horde is already here from far reaches of norcal to chase them. I wait until they get to the American River, less people and snags to deal with.

Re: Anyone like eating surf perch?

Grew up eating fish with bones in them using chopsticks. You get skilled at grabbing meat and avoiding bones.
Went camping this past weekend, caught half dozen of them and fried them up for dinner....

Re: Surf Perch first time success!

They spawn during spring and into early summer. But, I've caught them all year long, even in the winter with the big waves. Just have to cast a bit heavier weight.

Re: Surf Perch first time success!

Nice man. I tell my friends fishing for surf perch is like fishing for blue gills, but I seem to catch many more SPs than BGs. Plus, if the bite gets cold in one spot, you just move along the shore...

Re: Looking to buy a wet weather jacket

Not sure if you found a rain jacket, but any will work. Main thing you're looking for in a rain jacket are cuffs, so water doesn't seep into your arms when casting/moving arms around, breathability...
  21. Re: Total ROOKIE - taking a swing at surf perch

Good job on catching on your first trip out. Wright's Beach is a scary beach to fish on, though I've only camped and walked the surf there. As others said, keep walking, casting and retrieving. Even...
  22. Re: Fishing near Gualala Point Campground area

Re: Sacramento river, live pike minnows.

I've never managed to catch a pike minnow but have seen how successful they are. Saw a guy catch 2 keepers, a 24'' and a 26'' in 10 minutes with the same damn pike minnow.

    Re: Young America Lake

Nice job. Always wondered if those lakes held any fish. I've hiked up to the fire lookout, walking by Tamarack Lakes, but didn't have any luck.
