Re: Mokelumne River from the bank

Yeah, the one big raceway at the moke hatchery has a lot of foliage and downed timber in it, I'm not sure when they fill it with juveniles, but I usually only go over that way in November to walk...

Re: Mokelumne River from the bank

My friend hooked one on a swimbait while striper fishing a few weeks back, he released it quickly boatside, so there already a few around the river. Likely just some lost springers from the Feather...

    Re: Oroville Kings

Hey Wes, what's the color of the fillet on those oroville kings? That looks like a blast. Used to catch Folsom kings with my dad, they'd be throwing up pond smelt when we netted them. Fun stuff.
  4. Re: What lures are you using on the Sac River?

Never done it, but I'm willing to be a real cut plug herring would be money on those fish that are still fresh out of the estuary. Dodger probably helps in the murk that rio can get vs the clearer...

    Re: Live Bait In Berkley

Thought J&P was on Pier 47 in SF? I was doing the olí live bait hunt at 4AM a few weeks back in Berkley. Dudes at the tackle shop near K dock that sold it still have their websites and social media...

    Re: Independence Day Tomales Halibut

Iíve hit Tomales twice this year. First time, it was so slow I left and went up the coast to find some rockfishing off the kayak.

Last week my friend and I went back out, I caught 5 smelt. He...
  8. Re: Deer Hunting for the First Time this Upcoming Season

I appreciate the responses guys. I'll make sure to get into one of the courses soon, looks like Grizzly Island is holding one in the near future. Looking forward to the experience!
  9. Deer Hunting for the First Time this Upcoming Season

Been meaning to get into deer hunting. Grew up in a fishing family, but hunting was never something I was exposed to. I've been doing my share of research on the subject and of course have the 2019...

    Re: Smoking Salmon

Almost time to throw some more on the smoke, if they keep letting the river flow that is. Fingers crossed for a better return on the AR this year.
  11. Re: Any good places to fish near Lake County Ca?

Blue lake, if I'm not mistaken, is stocked during certain times of year.

    Re: Smoking Salmon

For the thicker pieces, you can score the bottom and top sides a bit for more flavor penetration during the brine. I always forget to do it, but the old recipe my dad used to use was like that. It...

    Re: Smoking Salmon

So I've messed around with the dry times and have established that for my personal preference of the salmon coming out more jerky like, that I do a minimal of 8 hours to dry it. Better yet, 12. ...

    Re: Rod and reel help!!

Those standard abu garcia 6500 round reels work great. Good smooth drag, clicker for the bite alarm, solid construction.

Either that or go with something like an older green shimano curado 300....

    Re: Rod and reel help!!

7'9" okuma SST back bouncer, it's like $80, can't go wrong. Sensitive tip and enough meat on the lower end to work a fish quickly.

Lots of the main rod companies make a similar rod. Lamiglas,...

    Re: Tahoe Tagged Rainbow

Last year my one trout fishing expedition was at Fallen Leaf. What a rat fest of emaciated little pilot peak cutts. Damn near every one we hooked and landed was snake like in appearance. Mack food...

    Re: Help fishing Tulloch

Powder S-waver 168 got me lots of lookers and the occasional taker when I fished there. Also try spooks in the evening around the docks and housing areas. Fun lake.

    Re: 2019 Trout Opener.

Good call on that with the worms. Where itís legal, they canít be beat.

Little gulp minnows or micro flukes on jigheads are also killer and itís a relatively easy system that can be fished at...

    Re: Striper & Tides

Not saying a flatfish won't catch stripes, but that's more of a salmon lure than anything. I've seen guys stick stripes on them, but it's not the norm. Anything can happen though, just might have...

Itís mud. Unless youíre bait fishing with 5oz of lead, save yourself the time if youíre planning to troll or toss lures. The sac just wonít clean up.

Re: Stripers in the Moke ???

IMO some predation is a positive for those smolts. They have to learn at some point that their lives are going to be faced with everything wanting to eat them, might as well start it early, probably...
