Re: Are huge trout good to eat?

Well may be a bit late to the party on this one, but it’s a personal preference in my opinion. Larger fish tend to have a higher fat content. That fat tends to have a strong fish flavor to it. ...
  3. Re: Landlocked steelhead in thermalito afterbay

Handy website. The afterbay is not an anadromous water. Two dams between it and the river, with no fish ladder. Not being a smart-a##, just been down that discussion road several times before. ...
  4. Re: Landlocked steelhead in thermalito afterbay

Haven't fished it in a long time, so can't say how they've taken with the recent plants, but similar plants from the past created some very nice fish. They're classified as trout for F&W regulation...

    Re: Transom Height

Personal preference in my book. Had my old Fishrite out of Fort Bragg and had a wave smack the transom for a cold bath, and that didn’t have a transom cutout at all. You even see big offshore...

    Re: Verona or Knights Landing

Fishing below Verona keeps Feather fish in the picture. Just food for thought.

    Re: What Am I?

Round spots say rainbow. If there were vermiculations (squiggly lines) or rosettes (circle with hole in the middle) its' color pattern might suggest tiger trout, but I don't see any. Based solely...

    Re: Trolling uphill?

Plugs or spinners work best at same speed vs current. If you’re killing you battery trolling up stream, you’re trolling too slow downstream.

    Re: Sac river from bank

Try Freeport on the Sac. There are fish in the system now that will be in RedBluff and Oroville next week.

    Re: Sac/feather

Congrats on getting pops onto some fish. Sorry to hear the big one got away, but gives you a reason to go back. I really enjoy that stretch of river above Gridley. Plenty of water to fish beside...

    Re: Line preference

Most folks use braid raid for the reasons stated, but millions were caught on mono prior to the advent of braid. It’s a choice, not a necessity in my opinion.

    Tomales Bay Weekend

Made a trip to Tomales Bay over the weekend with a couple of buddies. Fishing was tough. Wind picked up Saturday around noon, and Sunday even earlier. We (aka not me) broke off one halibut...

  19. Re: Braid or mono for backtrolling main line

Braid here too. Figure the rod is supposed to be the main shock absorber.

Nothing more frustrating than working long and hard for a rare bite only to end with one of the worst feelings in the...

  22. Re: Camping and Fishing - Best Practices for Cleaning Fish?

Agreed. I for one have become “sanitized” when it comes to fish. I prefer mild fish and hate anything overly fishy. As a result I’m anal about trimming all fat and dark meat off fish, even to the...

Re: How much power/speed loss at altitude

My advice is don’t overthink it. Greater elevation means less horsepower. Carbureted engines are more susceptible than fuel injected models but it affects them all to some extent. Reducing the...
