  1. Re: Suggestions on bank fishing for Salmon Sacramento River?

    Yeah, much better idea.
  2. Re: Suggestions on bank fishing for Salmon Sacramento River?

Might want to give Freeport a try, a couple hundred yards below the bridge. Kind of trashy down there though and it can get crowded, especially when the salmon are moving through there.

    Re: Screaming Eagles

I was at San Pablo Dam and saw a bald eagle take a hen mallard off the water. It flew right over us carrying it, about 100’ up.

Haven’t been out in that area yet but was also wondering if anyone in the combat zones of Dillon Pt. or 1st. St. have had any luck yet.

    Faulty Line?

This happened about 2 months ago but I’m still bothered by it. I had just respooled my medium size spinning reel that I use for plugging for striper with 14 lb. mono. Not going to name the...

    Re: Cuts, Brooks, and Bows

Thanks Jetspray. I agree 100%. The look on that guy’s face when I walked into his camp holding his rod was priceless. It was a great feeling handing it to him. Just remembering it now and telling the...

    Re: Cuts, Brooks, and Bows

I was on a backpack trip in the Marble Mtns. in Northern CA many years ago and my buddy lost his prized Browning knife on the hike in. We had set up camp on a small creek about halfway into a group...

Haven’t fished Pardee in years but this thread got me curious. Checked it out on google earth. There are 2 small islands and one fairly good sized one up the river arm. The larger one is probably the...

    Re: Sold MyBoat

I know how you feel Waterdog. I bought my first boat in 1978 and sold my last one in 2016. Been doing a lot of bank fishing lately. I don’t catch as many fish, but man, it sure is relaxing.

    Re: Smoking Salmon

I’ve heard that the target temperature, for trout or salmon, to make it safe to eat, is 145. I use a Bradley smoker with a PID controller so I can be pretty accurate with the temperature. I smoke at...

Re: Topaz. First day of summer

It certainly seems like you had the right combo. Nice job! Great to see you get back out there again. Nice bonus being able to drive the truck right to the shore. No places left like that around here.

I remember as a kid, while night fishing for catfish, being able to tie my gear and bait up with just the light of the moon. Now, even with +2.50 readers and bright sunlight, I still sometimes...

Hey Captain, great to see you back out on the water again. Must admit, I like the eye patch accessory much better than that Dodger cap I’ve seen you wear in the past. I always enjoy your posts and...
  16. Re: East Bay Regional Parks Lakes: Planted trout in the warmer months?

Welcome to the boards! The EBRPD lakes are never productive for trout fishing unless there are regular plants. Once the weather warms up and the trout planting stops, you’re better off heading inland...

Used to live near Lake Chabot in the late 60’s - early 70’s and that lake had an abundance of crawdads back then. They were easy to catch and we would hook them through the tail with a split shot a...
