Re: South Fork American River near Coloma

Whenever people talk about the south fork, I am reminded of the old timers talking about the days when there were steelhead running up by Coloma. How awesome would that have been? I guess we got a...

    Re: Sacramento Area 9/25/2019

Everything you say is true, and I never fished there for exactly those reasons. I don't care personally that they closed it.

Having said that though, I don't understand why DFW didn't just...

Re: Are huge trout good to eat?

With rainbows, bigger tastes better IMHO. When they get large the meat is to me almost indistinguishable from fresh salmon. I am talking about large wild trout though, not pen raised hatchery fish....

Re: Is there bass in rollins

I used to catch smallmouth in Rollins a few years back. My experience was the same: small/skinny.
  5. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

Obviously the video was an attempt at humor, nothing more than that. It would be disingenuous to claim it had any bearing on how Mr. Kellogg treats fish that he intends to release. Maybe even...

    Re: Summer time finesse fishing

I used to have sole fishing access to a private pond of about two acres. It was fascinating watching the bass quickly learn from their experience. When I first fished it, they would aggressively...

    Re: Whats YOUR fishing store?

Fisherman's Warehouse, hands down. I also like Sportsman's Warehouse, but not nearly as much.

Sometimes I go to Bass Pro just because it is a lot closer to me, but it is nowhere near as good as...

    Re: Junction Lake

I've fished Junction a few times in my kayak...mainly because it is a pretty spot and is out of the mainstream traffic. I had a good time, but never caught anything worth mentioning.

    Re: Small mouth bass

Union Valley has a crapload of smallies also, as does Prosser Creek Reservoir. Honestly they are kind of all over the place...it just depends on what environment you would prefer to fish...Delta,...

    Re: Tahoe Bass

I hear you. Thank you for clarifying.

I don't have any sort of jaundiced eye toward the people working on eradicating the bass....but I kind of do, on a gut level, toward the viability of the...

That's why I asked. But you're right, driving to Tahoe City would have been more efficient than asking a simple question. I have other questions...just need to figure out where to drive to get...

Until this thread, I didn't even know there were bass in Tahoe.

    Re: Say it ain't so

This isn't about lead fishing weights....it's about the passionate hatred our "leaders" in this state have for hunters and fishermen. This is just the beginning....there will be more and more...

Re: Beardsley Lake or Donnell Lake

There is a ladder on the dam, IIRC. You can also walk to the far side of the dam and access the water from the granite bank, but it is very, very steep. What makes Donnell challenging is that it is...

Re: Beardsley Lake or Donnell Lake

Donnell is so very tempting, but there are a lot of obstacles in your path.

For one thing, last I heard the road in was indefinitely closed due to storm damage. Not sure if it ever reopened or...

Re: Where to get Brook Trout right now?

I'm confused. When you say "EB" do you mean brook trout? They are not native to California...my understanding is that they have been planted in large numbers because they breed well in lakes...

    Re: Smallmouth or Largemouth

Smallies are superior in every way except size. When I hook a largemouth, usually it feels as much like a clump of weeds as a fish. Smallmouth fight like a wild rainbow....better sometimes.
