    Re: New to Yuba/Sutter

There are few things better than learning new water in a fine machine in my opinion. I’d take every chance I could to get out on the river with the goal of learning new water rather than simply...

    Re: Cut plug above colusa

Thats one one thing I wish I could wrap my head around. Stripers do hit Salmon plugs (Kwikfish, Flatfish etc.), but hours per fish compared to trolling striper plugs (Rebels, Yozuris, Rattle Traps...

    Re: Cut plug above colusa

I’m sure they would. My question would be, do they work better than whatever else you might use (plugs, spinners, roe etc.)? I would expect that so long as you can run them at the proper speed...

    Re: Bullards Bar 8-14-2019

Congrats on another great trip. Nothing wrong with putting in a full day. I never have understood wanting to get off the water early if I had a choice. Time on the water is precious.

    Crab snaring with kids

Took the kids on one last camping trip before school to Lawson’s Landing. Left the boat home as it was a short trip and boogie boarding got more votes than fishing.

We did; however, get in some...

    Re: fly deterent

    Don’t slap so hard?

    Sorry, couldn’t help it.

Mosquito repellent seems to work for biting flys and ticks. Expect it would work for sand flies too.

    Good luck
  7. Re: Gerle Creek Reservoir and Twenty Lakes Basin (Yosemite) Help

I’ve fished Gerle several times and had luck with 1/8 oz Kastmasters and Z-rays. I’ve had better luck before the sun hits the water or after it drops.

I’m not a fly guy, but a buddy swears by...

It doesn’t take limits of giants to get kids hooked on fishing. A little success and desire to do it again is all that’s required and should be considered a true success.

    Congratulations on...

The ultimate test test of a mans fishing skill is in how much he enjoyed the day. Learning new stuff with a little success is one of the great enjoyments in life. Keep it up and take away the...

Only kidding. Another awesome report. Enjoy these days, they’re fleeting.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Re: Oroville 8/2

Sweet, thanks for the detailed report. I grew up fishing Oroville and catching 2 and 3 year old fish is fun. Sure wish I lived closer these days.

    Congrats on a nice trip.

    Re: 8/6/19 Frenchman Lake

Sounds like a fine day on the water. 17” red stripe rainbow is worth a trip on its own. If I recall everything they stock in there are fingerlings or sub-catchable. They sure make for a better...

    Re: Silverlake Camping

Silver and Caples are hit and miss depending on plants. A typical Carolina rig with power bait works well for planters. On Silver Lake the area around the boat ramp and to the south is a good area,...

Sounds like you took it all in stride. Very few folks post about their foibles but they happen all the time. Running downriggers takes some practice. As for hand cranking I just figure it’s...

    Re: Downrigger: Cable or Braid

You're killing me. How else can I justify buying more fishing crap I don’t really need? I’ve already tried the “I own 76 fishing rods and have braid on my downriggers” on the gals at the bar, and I...

    Re: Downrigger: Cable or Braid

    Ford vs Chevy

Benefits of braid is it doesn’t hum and there’s less blowback when your fishing fast and deep. Drawbacks are it’s less abrasions resistant when you bang around in the rocks, and you...

  21. Re: Camping and Fishing - Best Practices for Cleaning Fish?

I’ve got no problem throwing head and guts back, provided it’s not affecting others. Small creeks and rivers in swimming areas is rude in my opinion. Same for lakes where they’re visible to others....

Packer, Salmon and Sardine lakes up in the Gold Lake Basin all get stocked and are good places for kids to catch a few trout.

Davis lake has some nice fish too, but can be a bit hit or miss.
