  1. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

I di. When I get my next SS and pension deposits, I'm going to Stumpy Meadows, not far from ol' Cal ahe he's welcome to bring his float tube, one ultralight rig (4'6" rod, UL 1000 or smaller reel...
  2. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

Cal is a good fisherman, and from the standpoint of meat hunting, he's very very good. But for catch and release, he doesn't know whether to sh*t or go blind. There, I said it.
  3. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

I'm your Huckleberry. What HAVE you done? At least I leave some living fish you might be able to catch.
  4. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

    Ban ME!
  5. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

He was making fun of me, because I called him out on his Youtube channel. His C&R technique kills most of the fish he releases.
  6. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

Only because he's put himself out there as a role model for others. People listen to him and he thinks his C&R technique is fine, when it ensures most of the fish he releases, die soon thereafter. He...

Asked and answered, your honor. DYOFDW.
  8. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

Gee, and you have no agenda at all, do you? 0/10.
  9. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

Left a lot of living fish for others, maybe even you. How about you?
  10. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

Meat hunting is fine, and I approve. I'm sure more than 2/3 of the fish I release, survive. I meat hunt enough to get tonight's dinner, but after that, it's strictly catch and release. If you use...
  11. Re: Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

    1. Barbless hooks.
    2. No treble hooks
    3. use a rubber net, not a knotted nylon one.
    4. Keep the fish in the water, while it's in the net. If possible, never remove the fish from the water.
    5....
  12. Saw Cal's latest sarcastic piece on handlng trout.

But it was bullsh*t. Cal's C&R technique is killing fish. Why do C&R if your technique is killing the trout, anyway?
  13. Re: Gerle Creek Reservoir and Twenty Lakes Basin (Yosemite) Help

Shucks, if you could make it a week from yesterday, I'd be there. Going to French Meadows for the weekend, but Gerle Creek Mon-Thu. If you can come a wee bit later, we could tube together, I have a...

    French Meadows and Gerle Creek1

I know a lot about French Meadows from reports and videos, but there is precious little about fishing Gerle Creek.

Next week I'm hitting French Meadows for three days, starting Thursday, with a...

    Catch and Release

Check it out. I certainly want to lower the mortality rate of the fishing I do. When I want a meal or a few meals, I'll meat hunt, but everything else, strictly C&R. I leave the fish in the net, grab...
  18. Re: Help Me Choose A Rod for Lake Trout Fishing near Twin Lakes (Bridgeport, CA)

For 40 years I've been a Daiwa guy. My trout rig is a 4'6" Daiwa Eliminator graphite rod and a 37 year old Daiwa 700c. I've caught five-pound Eagle Lake Trout (at Eagle, 4lb test, worm on a hook) so...

    Re: Float Tube Help

I hadn't thought of the sudden-cardiac death but at my age and crappy shape, I'd better think about it.

I go in a pair of shorts because my fat calves leave no room for anything else.

I'm doing the eastern sierra, next month. First stop, Lundy lake near Bridgeport. Then the smaller lakes in the...

    Re: Best Fishfinder/Gps combo

I'm a small-lake float tuber, Garmin Strike 4 works great and the lithium battery I bought lasts a long time. I use a little solar panel to re-charge.
