The next meeting is set for Feb 20-21, 2020, most likely the 20th when they meet on fishing, wildlife the 21st. Meetings usually start at 8:30am, but the Striped Bass policy discussion and amendment may start around 9-10am? It's at the Natural Resources Building – Auditorium, First Floor 1416 Ninth Street, Sacramento, CA. There will be a lot of people there so get there early.

The joke was that fish and game didn't want to use the usually short name that all departments gets so they changed it.

California Department of Transportation = CalTrans
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection = Cal Fire
California Department of Fish and Game = Cal FA*

    Fish on

To Jared Huffman, a former Democratic state lawmaker from San Rafael, the name “fish and game” was an outdated artifact of a bygone era when state officials mostly set hunting seasons and bag limits. The word 'game' no longer reflected the department’s mission “to manage California’s diverse fish, wildlife and plant resources, and the habitats upon which they depend, for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public.”..“Having the name ‘game’ was a relic,”..“Even states like Texas and Montana, where hunting and fishing are sacred, they evolved to ‘fish and wildlife’ long ago.”..Huffman sees it as part of ongoing legislative efforts turn the department into a stronger, more independent, science-based agency that focuses on managing entire ecosystems, not just individual species. The department, which also puts forth conservation plans to balance the needs of threatened species with the needs of landowners, has its work cut out for itself. Trying to pull back some species from the brink of extinction and manage all other remaining wildlife in a state known for its biological diversity and as the nation’s most populous. Fish on.

It was a great turnout today and not surprisingly.... a decision on amending striped bass policies of 1996 has again been postponed, this time until February 5, 2020.

Thanks to all who came out and represented our fisheries and fishing interests.

To those who think it doesn't matter... and that the decisions have already been made....

I say, maybe so but having a voice and not using it to protect what you care about is almost a 100% guarantee it will be taken from you...

Keep the faith and keep fighting...

    FISH ON!
