    Can't tell size, but if it is 1.5+" I'd say crane fly larvae.

    Thank you for the help! here's a picture from a fly fishing website and it is a match!

    CADDIS LARVA

    (it was about the size of a nickel)

    Yes I was thinking partially digested when I first viewed this and if that is the case then I agree it may be a hellgrammite. I have used live hellgrammites as trout bait numerous times so I am familiar with hellgrammites. Could be either, hard to tell for sure from the photo.

    you could google 'cadis larve' and see if they look alike?

    bug partially digested...

    Hellgrammites have little leg like appendiges along each side of their body almost like a centipede. This only has 2 appendiges by the head. Still lean toward caddis larva.
