haha i was actually thinking about that as well and actually replied to her asking for some more clarification and threw out that scenario along with some others.. This one guy next to us slept in his tent with his poles in the water but had some fancy beeper alarm system. When he got a bite it would set off a pager/beeper and notify him. The ranger questioned him and then his response to the alarm thing was "oh thats pretty cool" and he was able to leave it be and continue sleep fishing.

I always thought catfishing at night and falling asleep getting woken up by your bells going off was pretty standard stuff.

I was actually awake in my tent looking out through the door and with my poles with bells/glowsticks 6 feet away from me and he still said that wasnt cool and that i wasnt "actively fishing". Clear Lake is lacking in visitors and by doing this it just put a bad taste in everyones mouth throughout the campground. I can understand a routine check during the day but to march through the campground at 4am waking people up was completely unecessary. Sorry, end of rant

    Dont fall asleep and fish!

    Hi Adam,

The ranger was correct. If you have your hook and line in the water, you must be actively present and watching it and able to immediately grab the rod and reel it in if a fish bites your hook. Fishing from inside your tent is not considered “actively fishing.”

    I hope this helps!

My only catch for the entire weekend. I wanted to keep her on a stringer through the lip in the water over night. Everyone said to just put it in a ice chest with water. It was dead in the morning and I was pissed. Poor kitty. But it was fun to catch!!

I'm reading that people are saying the bite was tough, but still some double digits caught. You guys are spoiled... I need to check that place out..

Thanks for the informative thread to you guys who fished it!

To me it sounds like shooting fish in a barrel!

    Congrats to you all,

Clear lake mercury levels are high and I don't think the 10lb+ cats are that good for eating
