I also use my electric trolling motor without a mount. Have been doing it for years. Since my canoe is plastic, to protect the sides a little, I hold a short piece of 1x8 board on each side then just clamp right to it. Works like a charm and cost nothing. So much more comfortable than having to reach far behind me if I mount it on the stern plate. Especially after several hours.

RNP knows stuff for sure...(even sporty thinks so sometimes)... He has helped me on numerous occasions... Probably without even knowing it... As with most participating members... Opinions are different about forums... But I myself... And most I know... Find them useful...

So you want a canoe kayak type of mount. Mine is metal for a foot control. You could probably rig it up to something similar to your picture but that picture is total DIY like Wes said
