    Re: Indian Valley is back!

Anytime you want to venture out in the woods it is worth a look at CalFire to see what they are battling at the time. I used to do that every time I went out with my 14ft Gamefisher and 9hp 2 stroke mercury. I car topped most of that time, so launching was easy as long as I could get the truck, that I had at the time, in position, because it was posilock rearend but not 4 x 4. Always carry something to protect yourself with, that is all I have to say....Jetspray

    Nice photos of the area.

    Thanks for the report.

The Definitely lots of burned sections (why the west road is closed) but overall still quite a bit of greenery there. Caught quite a few bass and hooked up to a good sized cat up in the Cache creek inlet. The water was super high but the boat ramp on the north end looked fine. Here are some pics of the area.

Over at Cache Creek by the bridge.

View from up on the top of the hill. Cache Creek inlet was way up.

Burned section up on five mile hill road.

Only pic of a bass I got Saturday evening. Tons of these little guys. Carp were going crazy up by the bridge. So many you could've just reached in and grabbed a bunch.
    Here they come!

Has anyone been back to Indian Valley recently? Any reports or tips? Thinking of heading up there or some other places on this thread this weekend.

    Re: Indian Valley is back!

I have camped at Indian Valley numerous times without a boat and fished there from shore. Ive caught lots of different fish from shore. The biggest large mouth bass I ever caught was there caught on night crawlers. I actually caught a large cat fish on a lure there. I have not caught many trout from shore but have got a few. I think from shore you are more likely to catch bass, pan fish and catfish. For bait Ive used everything from worms, chicken livers , stink bait (for catfish) and some bower bait.
For lures Ive used bass lures , kastmasters, rooster tails and some spoons. When the lake goes down some there are numerous exposed trees. If you can cast out to the trees you will likely get bass.
Years ago I met a guy from Arizona up there who drove from Az to Indian valley every year. He would bring dozens of live salamanders with him and he was just killing the bass with them. He as a little drunk when I was talking to him but he showed me a cooler of salamanders and he had a bunch of fish so I believed him.
One caution about Indian Valley is that there are a lot of rattle snakes up there. I had a dog that got bit by one 20 years ago (he survived), but no other problems. Just be careful if you walk around in brush. Of course everywhere in the California Central Valley and foothills has a large population of rattlers in the summer.

    Re: Indian Valley is back!

Can you fish Indian Valley successfully without a boat? What are some good spots and baits/artificials for bank fishing?
