Would a 6hp still work well to limp back if main went out? Also have 25" transom, want the extra long shaft so i can take off and not have a kicker bracket there when taking kids out tubing. Most likely will buy new cause finding an used extra long shaft seems impossible. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The 6hp is too small and lacks the thrust to maneuver your boat except in the calmest of conditions. Seon has the venerable 8hp Yami for sale, I'd jump on it. It's just my opinion but I think those are better than the newer 9.9's because I think they give better control.

I kept this motor for the next boat but all were too small for a kicker until I bought my current boat. But ended up buying a Motorguide saltwater model with spot anchor. So offering it to someone who could use a great kicker.

i also use it for trolling with no problems. When you’re trolling 1 to 2 mph it is affected by the wind and you may get blown off course. When it windy I usually use my main motor to troll. Hope this helps.

Try to get a kicker with two cylinders. Some of the 6 hp only have one cylinder and are kinda prone to vibrating.
    Here they come!

    Re: Anyone using 6HP Kicker?

My boat has a 8 HT but it is set in perminant and has a separate Panther control. Being my boat is 20 ft and weight is higher, I like the High Thrust and ability to lift with hydraulic control. It is so easy to lift it out of the water when underway. The 8 hp HT is perfect for me, I do not tow anyone on water toys though......Jetspray
