It can be a lot of fun, but it takes a little practice. Yesterday afternoon there high winds and it was pretty challenging because my boat acts like a sail. When that big one bit I was almost on the shoreline and was ready to start the motor and pull away from the rocks. So it looked like a circus trying to get my boat to open water while I was fighting the fish.

Bigger striper prefer larger meals, but the small fish hit the jumbos too. Trolling big plugs works too, but I usually get more bites on live bait.
I caught these 3 stripes 4-6 lbs 3 weeks ago within 10 or 15 minutes trolling plugs in the same area. Went back later for 3 hours and got nothing so you never know.

Now that’s a real day of fishing. Not fast and furious but working for a few nice fish is a rewarding feeling. Requires a better fisherman and gives a greater sense accomplishment than catching 20 on a stupid good day. My opinion anyway.

    Nice report

    Delta Stripers 5/2

I managed to get out and drifted jumbo minnows on the delta yesterday. I fished Dan Andreas Shoal, Santa Clara Shoals, Fishermans Cut, Frank's Tract, Old River, and the Moke. I limited on Stripers at 5.5 and 7.5 pounds, 24 and 27 inches long upstream from B&W on the Mokolome River. Also caught a few shorts, and 1 small keeper. Caught a little one that wasn't much bigger than the minnow. It was a tough day, I had to work at it and cover a lot of water, but it paid off. I tried soaking sardine also, but only caught catfish.
