LineStretcher is technically correct but I think a very tiny percent of people know the difference. Just about everyone considers a 9.9 or less motor a “kicker” whether it has a long shaft, short shaft, high thrust or what ever. I’ve never seen a small outboard described as anything other than a kicker, trolling motor or sometimes just a 9.9 hp outboard. If you said you have a skiff motor for sale , even though maybe technically correct no one would know what a skiff motor is. To most everyone when you say kicker, they think small outboard regardless of other factors.

No, size of the kicker depends on the size/weight of the boat. You dont need a 9.9 to troll in a 18 or 16 aluminum. Youd need more than a 9.9 to troll in a 25 fiberglass. There is no such thing as one type of kicker.

You could say something like "9.9 Mercury outboard, 20" shaft that can be used as a kicker motor". Just my .02 cents.
