Re: Berryessa Cinco de Mayo 5-5-19

I believe Berry will be back maybe this year but next for sure. I fished Wickiup in Oregon Last year, mid July and killed it for 5 days. By the end of summer they had drained the lake and folks thought the koke fishery was going to be dead for 3-4 years.

Unbelievably it has come back already this year.

There is hope and along with the Eagle Lake Trout they have been planting.....I believe the lake will be Back sooner than later.

Even T-Roy is back on the hunt

    Way to go M & K!!

Lets all keep trying Berry for Koke’s cuz they have to be on the recovery by now with all the water we have. They should be off Skiers Cove, Ranch house, or Big Island at this time of year. I hope to get out there soon in my new Hewescraft!!

    Keep Berry alive 👌

Well, I tried today 5/8, and had a couple of taps at 35' in the narrows during the morning, but no hookups. Later I caught a small trout in the main lake around noon. That was it after fishing from 7 AM to 1 PM.

Thank you for the report, Mike and Kristy! I had already planned to fish Berryessa this Wednesday, and wasn't sure whether to try for kokes or not. Recently, have been focusing on surface trout only, but will get out the kokanee gear and give it a try at 35 feet.

    Berryessa Cinco de Mayo 5-5-19

Berryessa 5-5-19 with a short video at the end.
After some promising reports we thought we give the big B a try. On the water @ 8am. After a few downrigger issues we started our troll just north of the dam.
There we had a few bites, Losing one trout at the net and catching a 11.5" koke 34' down on Gvf Lures orange gold digger.
Around 11am we moved out to the main lake and Mike immediately lands a 10" koke on a pink hoochie at 28'. Released. We played tag with a few more fish and ended our day with a nice 18" trout 5' down on GvfLures gold digger and gold Kaos pattern dodger.
May not sound like a great day of fishing but to be catching Kokanee at all at Berryessa makes me happier than you can imagine! Fingers crossed that this once incredible fishery may have a chance at coming back!
Hope everyone had a great weekend and Happy Cinco de Mayo!

    Yay Kokanee!!!

    Mike's trout.

Always fun to see these in Winters.

Me driving while Mike fixed the downrigger.

    The little koke we released.

    Nice tail!

Look how full the lake is!
