We took our last shot of the year for salmon out the gate on Saturday. Launched at Berkley at 6:30 and were immediately met with a some wind and bumpy seas all the way across the bay, around point Bonita, and all the way up to Duxbury. After a hour and half, we arrived at Dux to more wind and low fog. We put down in 80’ of water right at the buoy trolling apex’s 35 and 45 otw. After 2 hours of not a scratch and no sign of life we moved in tight to rocky point where there was much more bait. Another 2 hours goes by and nothing... feels like it’s going to be one of those days. We switch gears and try trolling the length of Stinson for halibut...NADA. Next move was north to the Towers where most of the commercial fleet was trolling. Tried for an hour but the fog lifted and so did the wind...now it’s white capping. We decided to call it a day and head for the bay, but as we come back through the Dux area, there is 75-100 boat there and birds working bait for miles. So we put down for another couple hours for nothing. Saw 2 nets fly all day. As we head home I can not help give it one more shot at Bonita cove to shake the skunk. With one pass we boat 3 nice rock fish and one halibut. I have never been so happy to see a 26” halibut. Got back to the dock a little after 6pm. Although it was fishing and not catching it was great to be out on the big pond!
