Don’t know if any of the strip clubs have small strippers. You may have to go to a larger city. 😁😁

Large live bait will help avoid shakers and provide a good tug war that you are seeking.

Away from the salt water and way up stream, I did ok with night crawlers.

A lot easier to keep, verses the minnow baits that get soft and hard to use.

Moving to a new area is another great idea.
There is more than just small strippers in this river nipping at your bait !!

Just drop a small jig or hook with a small offering at a dock on this river and see.......
what comes up to have a bite. Tons of 2" or bigger minnows.

Try live bait, you’ll eliminate the bait stealing shakers. You’ll catch fewer fish but bigger fish.

Id say swap bait types. When I first fished stripers I mainly used anchovies and didn't catch a keeper for months. Swapped to sardines and shad and started catching larger fish. Upsizing for me doesn't stop picking, just makes hook ups harder.

Move up or down stream 100 feet or so to get away from the small ones. Your favorite spot may be have been good before, but it's got the small ones now. In a week or two the bigger fish might be there.

Maybe... I‘m using whole anchovies or fists of chicken livers the size of a racket ball.
