    Closing the East Carson 11/15/19

Today is the last day to fish many of the California rivers and streams in the Eastern Sierra for 2019. Jeff and I wanted to say good by to the East Carson. Our expectations for fish this late in the season was low. We were surprised. We arrived at our favorite spot along Hwy. 4 at 0800. Temps were in the mid to upper 30 with overcast skies. We fished until 1030 using small plastics and managed 20 fish to the shore. These were all nice cold water bows to 3#+. Jeff and I kept two limits to go in the smoker. The East Carson has been good to us this year. Thanks for the ride Jeff.

Always beautiful on the East Carson

Sorry for continuing to post on this, but it looks like its going to snow starting Tuesday up that way and it's supposed to continue until thursday. I've got chains for my sedan, but wondering if anyone thinks it's actually worth it to go fish by Hangman's or if someone has a better recommendation for lower elevation stream/river fishing? I don't mind fishing in the rain or snow at all (I actually love it). I still really want to get up there any fish, just not sure if they may close off roads or Highway 88 getting up there.

I know a lot of you live up that way and a guy coming from the Bay Area, I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks again!

The first time we fly fished the East Carson was in November several years ago. My wife and I caught many just drifting dry flies. Yeah, seemed like a good idea at the time and we were wading the river with patches of snow here and there and both the 'bows and the browns were rising to our flies. Largest may have went about 14".

You can’t fish the Carson at all? Even with plastics or flies and no barbs?

Dang it...my family is all out of CA and I can’t leave due to work so I was going to try and fish up there on thanksgiving.

    Oh man....if I can’t I gotta find a new spot!

Just check the regs at the website for California they have any information on where you wish to go. I always did that before hitting anywhere when I lived in California...…...Jetspray
