That is huge! While I've seen hundreds of Osprey water dives, I've never see the "shake off" deal where they blast the water out of their feathers!

    Great pics!

Slim - GREAT series. The back light silhouette/halo makes these EXTRA special. I haven't seen anything like 'em. So glad you posted.

My Panasonic FZ50 is noted for good reach especially with the tele-extender, but it's performance really drops in low light. If I set ISO higher to 400 from 100 (which works great in sunlight) I not only get a lot of graininess and noise in the image but also the speed of my multi shot burst mode drops to maybe one per second. AT 800 ISO grain turns to chunks. At 100 ISO, in good sun, I get about 5 shots in 2 1/2 secs. I'm curious about your Nikon's burst capability. The newer Panasonic TZ5 point & shoot I recently got has a "minigun" mode that really zips, but at a much lower resolution.

    osprey / grocery shopping.

I won't use all the pictures, just some. But a few years ago I just held down the button and let the camera take pictures as fast as it could. The distance *was great so it's not a great close up but you can see what's happening. The sun was very low which made a bad lighting on the subject except when he shook the water off of himself. The back light from the sun amplified it . 8-)

I see Ospreys really get INTO their hunting mode.

I'm amazed at their strength not only being able to fly out of the water but with a load.

This is about the 8th picture frame in the series. He shakes himself like a dog shaking off the water.

And off he goes with dinner..
