I headed out to Bodega last Friday morning, set up camp at the Westside campgrounds and set-up my rod/reels, hoochies, double hooks, flasher, etc for the next morning.
My guest were Capt Ken, a guide up in the sierra and his 16 yr old son Willy.

We got an early start Saturday morning, headed for Elephant Rock then started our troll as the sun came up. It was a very slow morning so after several hours Willy, as a typical 16 yr old decided to put a spinning lure on his line and w/i minutes he boats this 28#'er

Then another lull period...for about two hours then Ken yells "Fish On", I turned around thinking that it was on his rod, but to my surprise, my rod was bouncing and line was peeling. I jumped out of the helm, grabbed the rod but there was no stopping that fish. I say fish because I didn't know was it was. The thing almost spooled me twice and if it wasn't for Ken turning the boat around and following it...game over. Several times the fish turned and swam directly for the boat where my line was slack and me saying "I lost em" but Ken, a guide instructed me to keep reeling. It was a give and take event...one I won't soon forget.

Finally got the fish to side of the boat but I couldn't see over Ken and Willy, both blocking my view but heard Ken say "BIG FISH"...hummm could it be a White Sea Bass?

Me standing back towards the bow with rod in had, keeping a tight line, while Ken "stabbing" the net at the fish and each time, the fish would find strength to swim away. Then finally Willy was able to grarb the leader and pulled it closer to the boat where Ken finally netted it.
It took both with brute strength to boat that Hog.

Not a White Sea Bass....

By my personal best Salmon that weighted on a grocery store type "Produce" scale at 40#

Too heavy for this old man to lift.
