Friend of mine gave me two red wine barrels. Anyone out there have an idea on how to chip(like in the bags) the staves? Thanks.....Bill

Best advice. Unless you want to be like my old man, whip out the butcher knife and chop away!!!

funny you mention butcher knife cause i am a retired butcher. Wood chipper idea. I thought of that first, but was told the small household chippers prolly wouldn't be powerful enough. This wood is pretty darn hard. Just might borrow a friends chipper and give it a go . Hope I don't bust the blade. I'll post results. Thanks.

Have you used that barrel wood for smoking before? My brother in law gave me some a few years back, and I didn't care for it, but, taste is subjective.

If you live near Turlock I saw wine barrel chips for $2.99 at Pops Bargain Outlet a couple days ago. The bags were fairly large....about 3lbs or larger. Sure would be easier then chippin what ya got.
