View Full Version : Bodega Bay Crab Opener

White Cap and I met up and rode with fellow fisherman CJ and his buddy Mike about 6:30 am at Bodega Westside launch. I was very surprised that the parking lot wasn’t like a zoo at that time of the morning but later learned that the boat line extended past Spud Marine later that morning.

We headed north, dropped 8 pots to soak then headed further north for some Rockfish. Fishing was slow but was able to boat 7 very large Lings and several rock cod and after about 5hrs, went back to pull the pots. Limits pulled by the 5th pot, which were re-baited for CJ’s Sunday’s crew to pull, we then headed back in. CJ and Mike headed home to cook their spoils while Al and I opted to cook ours at the parking lot. After staging burner and pot of water, it only took one hour and 15 minutes to cook 20 crabs.

Thanks CJ for the ride on a great opening day.

Excellent. I should be doing the same next Saturday.

Sean, ingenious versatility is a phrase I think of when it comes to your multi-faceted expert angling skills. And cooking your crabs before leaving the parking lot only adds to your "Jack of all trades" mystique. As always I'm impressed and envious. Well done...thanks for sharing!

Man I wish I had a boat, I was out at Lawson's and the pier was crowded to say the least. The boats where killing it though.
