View Full Version : Late Ft Bragg Rockfish report

Last Thursday 8/17, Holly and I went fishing aboard the SeaHawk out of Ft Bragg. It was our anniversary and that is how she wanted to spend it, so being the good husband I am I obliged.

The trip was for rockfish and we fished mostly the Cleone area. The first drop on the first drift Holly got a double. The fishing continued like that for most of the day. Nearly every drop hooked fish, but the lings were not to be had on this day. It was hard to even hit the bottom without hooking rockies and some of the drifts were pretty fast, we did work the bottom when we could. I lost a few pieces of gear, Holly didn't lose hers but the bar was awfully dinged up at the end of the day from being bounced on the rocks.

The catch was variety of rockfish including vermilion, quillback, canary, china, rosys and blues & blacks.

We didn't get many good pics, but here is 2.

Nice to hear that you got into them. It's been a good year for rockfish down my way too. Too bad that one of my favorite, and most productive areas will probably be closed next year. Guess that means that I'll have to venture out into the Federal waters to get my fish.

Nice fish, and good photo's. Happy anniveresary.
