Haven't fished for shad since 1975 when I was stationed at Mather AFB...banked it on the American near Rancho Cordova and had a ball. Still consider Mr. shad, ounce for ounce, the best fighting fish there is. Have been wanting to fish for them again since returning to CA a decade ago but haven't pulled the trigger...stripers keep getting in the way. Would like to change that this year. As such, travelling from Brentwood, where should I fish and where should I launch a 16ft Tracker? In addition to access to productive water, ramp quality and security are important considerations. Thanks!

I would say Star Bend but that's quite ways for you. Brytes beach is a nice launch area with cameras covering the park if you want to launch on Sac river. Fish the Sac/AR split near discovery. Some shad continue to feather, some make a turn so I think there should be plenty of fish.
