View Full Version : Mixed Swell Forecast  Question

Maybe a silly question, or maybe it doesn't even matter, but...

If the forecast calls for a mixed swell and the heights are the same from NW and SW, would that help to slow the drift for rockfishing?

When the swells are mixed like that where they are coming from different directions it is just sloppy and no fun fishing.as far as slowing down the drift I can't say :-X

I fished from the skiffs this weekend at Santa Cruz. During the early morning the winds blew us north. During the late morning there was hardly any wind at all and the tide carried us toward shore. During the afternoon the Northwesterlies blew us south. We used a drift sock to slow our drift and it worked pretty well.

Hope this helps.

for boats on the bay the wind/tides are the
two biggest factors for the drift....
only if the swell is above 10ft would it even
have an effect on boat drift....
in smaller swells the boat only goes up/down
the tide carries us and with wind the drift
is incressed..... ;) :D
