View Full Version : Fishing the big pond again. Lafayette 11-3-13

First of all I Love starting a fishing morning with an extra hour of sleep! Up at 5am and on the water at 7am. Bright, Brisk and slightly breezy. Time to start bringing the thermos full of hot tea!

We had plenty of company out there. Mostly on the west end of the lake. We started our drift but the morning was slow for us. The wind picked up so we anchored for a while and Mike caught a nice 18" Lassen trout. He also missed a much bigger fish that broke the line. No more 4lb test line. Just isn't strong enough for the big boys.

Another angler was doing very well about 30 ft away from us. At this point windy or not I was determined to drift again even if it meant running the gauntlet of other boaters. I hopped in the drivers seat so to speak. It paid off too.

We ended up with 10 trout to 18" only keeping six. Lost count of how many that got away. The good stuff was rainbow power bait, Cheese and Hatchery dust. Also our signature white power eggs.

Funny how the last few trips the bite has improved as the day went on. Usually it's the morning for the best action. So winner winner fish for dinner!
Home by 2:30 and had a nice nap.

Now that's what I call a great way to spend a Sunday!
Until next time....Happy Fishing!

Mike and Kristy.

Great way to spend a Sunday indeed. Those fish had some bright pink stripes.

4lb. is kinda light for trolling, as for casting or bait fishing it should be fine. I used 2lb. for a while and had no problem in current (pb on 2lb. is 4.something)

Anyway nice report you guys have got Lafayette dialed in for sure.

GC, Go to the farthest part of the lake. It's opposite the dam. About 3/4 of the way there you will see some buoys. Work that area drifting or baiting. If you don't find them then just move around. They are there in pockets. When you find them just settle in and enjoy. Too fun!
