It's tough to have one good purpose set up for everything, but if I had to have one, I'd get a 7' Tiger Ugly Stick, rated 12-30lbs, and a Penn 320GTI reel. Relatively inexpensive. I use mono for all saltwater fishing, except rockfishing. That's when I use braid with about 12-15 feet of fluorocarbon at the end. That really helps feel the rocks when you're jigging lures.

A Seeker 270 teamed up with a Newell 332 would be plenty for the bay, be it sharking , salmon, striper, & sturgeon. The 270 has plenty of backbone to work your rockfish and albies over if you ever get a wild hair and want to make your way into the DEEP BLUE. Hope this help and if you need anything feel free to PM me. BALL PARK would be $300 for the set up. TIGHT LINES, Rich
