Hit Melones today with high hope for some browns and Big bows. Launched at TT 7am headed up river into creek arms and was very disappointing to see how low the water is, we need rain rain rain! Fan cast the creek arms and coves for about 2hrs and only caught a few truck trouts. Didnt want to go back to the ramp area with all the people and bass boats fishing there.
We decided to hit the flats that we have caught lots of nice trout while fishing for spotted bass in spring. With low water it became islands, but the fish still there, beached the boat and walk the bank casting copper Z-RAYS and silver Thomas we C&R lots of nice Bows and a 3lbs spotted bass that slammed my lure, thought I had a big trout lol... gave me a good fight on light tackle with 4lbs line. Big school of fish would swim back and forth every 15mins and were boiling up eating bait. Thought about throwing my spook lol.... Left around noon.

HWY49 Bridge

On our way back around noon, there are still lots of people and a few boats fishing the ramp area.

Way to give it a go. Sorry you didn't find some quality holdovers or browns but that is part of the hunting experience. Glad you caught fish though.

Great job getting out and getting some fish, weather has been great up here lately. Everyone is so upset about the water level...it's gotten much much lower. To be honest I am looking forward to having all those fish concentrated in a much smaller body of water, you'd think that alone would improve fishing. I've seen both ends of the spectrum. But for the big holdovers we get every winter, we for sure need a lot of rain to get all the little creeks going. I haven't even targeted the big holdovers yet due to the lack of rain/warm weather (still feels like it is October here). Lets hope for a wet wet late winter/spring, besides I like the spring rain, makes the turkeys easier to harvest when they have a late breedin season, haha!
