View Full Version : Fun times at Amador. 1-11-14

I knew today was going to be great! Mostly because we were meeting our wonderful friends Chris and Iya for some long overdue fishing together. We were up at 3am and on the road by five.
We get to the Antioch bridge and it's closed. ??? They detoured us to the off ramp and we waited about twenty minutes for it to reopen. Good thing we were up early.

Reached Amador at 7am and our buddies had just arrived as well with their boat. (Perfect timing.) On the water and we start our troll. Except Chris forgot his remote for the trolling motor so we had to use the engine all day but the fish didn't seem to mind.

Before all the poles were out it's fish on. I was first up and landed a nice 17" bow. Caught on a purple fly. Kept for lunch tomorrow.

Iya follows up by bagging herself another 17"er on an olive J-fair. Kept as well.
A bit later Mike says "I'm up next and I would like a giant fish with a tag." A bright red tag that says YOU WIN! LOL.

Well guess what happened next? Yep A nice fight that I got on video and a 26" 6.62 lb tagged fish! It wasn't the red tag I just mentioned but it did earn us free day use. Can't hate that. It was also caught on the purple fly.

Next up is Chris and another nice battle brings him a 24" piggie. On video again. We were all having the best time! Caught on a white and olive J-fair. Kept.

My turn again! 17" on the purple fly. Thinking we were going to catch more monsters we released it. But that would be the last fish of the day for us.
Maybe around 10:30 or so the light rain started. Wasn't bad but with the darkened skies you could feel that something had changed. The bite was gone.

We spent another couple of hours working mostly the main body of the lake with no success so it was time to bail. I can live with five chunky fish to the boat. And the perfect company made for an awesome day.

Even saw an otter swimming all around us but he was too fast for my camera.
Saw some fellow fishing friends out there too.

What worked...
Troll top six inches of water, Flies and J-fairs with action disks. Scent- Carp spit. But don't count out those grubs. We lost a few on them.
A few bonus pics...

Great report. How was the water level. Been worried it would be to low to launch. Nice fish for sure. Fish On!!! Dave

If that's not what fishing is about, I don't know what is. Congratz.

Nice work out there! What a day! Great report as always. Its amazing that you guys sacrifice your weekends and get up that early on Saturdays. Shows true dedication! And it makes it worth it when you hook into hogs like that. Nice job!!!

Thanks for the report. That's me with my 2 'girls' on the shore. The redhead will land them if she can (and if I can catch them first). Got there about 10 and ended up with one for about 3 hours of trying. Folks next to me had a full stringer, but they got there at dark thirty and left about an hour after I got there.

Great job. Don't be giving out my years old secret. :) Purple woolies are always in my tackle box.

Purple could indicate a crappie hatch. Just something to throw in the mental tackle box.

Sounds like a good day, I'll have to try the purples as well. I caught 3 trolling with a rainbow split tail rapala. One of them was tagged, I won a Lake amador hat. I'm off to Amador right now actually.
