Heading out to Coloma resort to go camping this weekend and it's right on the South Fork American River area. Wanted to take my 9 year old to experience some trout fishing. Not even sure if there are fish in this area? Anyone experienced any good spots for kids and or what is the setups for fishing this area. Thanks in advanced

You should call ahead to the Resort...If I remember correctly they let water out for the river rafters so water goes up and down. Not even sure if they are doing that because of the drought . Have fun and be safe

I used to fish it all the time! Plenty of trout! I usually drift worms with a splitshot through the deeper holes, or spinners and kastmasters work too! You can catch fish all up and down that area, just keep moving if u dont find fish. Ive caught trout in whitewater holes with kayakers going through every 5 min.
