California is drying up. Centuries ago, when very few native people were in California, the tree ring analysis indicated that California has undergone several periods of 30-50 year drought cycle. This could be start of the long term drought series, but now with 38 million water hungry people with their current lifestyles of convenience. There could be massive exodus out of California soon.

We know that salmon and other native fishes have survived because there were no people to build dams nor siphoned off the rivers even in the face of 30-50 year drought cycles. Currently, if this could be the start of the long term drought cycle, all anadromous salmon species would be a goner in a few years of successive drought. We could see Sacramento River running dry. Then massive exodus out of California.

I hope that Global Climatic change would be able to divert some water to us and break the start of the long term drought spell.
