Didn't want to hijack the steelie thread too much more, but I was remembering some crazy fish parasites I came across this summer while looking into the salmon wounds.

This thing has to be the nastiest one!

It eats away the fish's tongue and somehow functions as a new one!

The Parasite that Becomes a Tongue (http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2013/07/the-parasite-that-becomes-a-tongue/)

Second up is the eye-sucking one...

Apparently another species of sea lice.

Happy New Year!

Well its official. This is the most disgusting thing i have seen all year. No more sticking my thumb in a fishes mouth to grab its jaw. Every fish gets the net from here on. A net with a 10 ft handle

Interesting, jughead!

I thought they were pretty rare.

Do you have any pics of them? We could increase the EWWWW factor of the thread with some local parasite pics.

From wikipedia:
Cymothoa exigua was depicted in the 2012 film The Bay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bay_%28film%29), in which the residents of a small town on the Chesapeake Bay were infected by the parasite, and died as a result. The film proposed that Cymothoa exigua grew to large sizes quickly due to the steroid laden chicken feces dumped in the bay.

Here's another gross one that I remember used to be quite a common occurence particularly in jacksmelt. Sometimes the flesh would be absolutely infested with these worms. Enjoy!!
