the time is 1626 and i just crossed from martinez to benicia on the amtrak and i saw a very large tree, maybe 30'-40' in length and very thick caught up between the current and one of the legs of the benicia bridge. once that tide turns, that thing will be heading east toward the ships and it looks like a boat sinker! i saw another object that also looked like a downed tree floating around so there could be up to two of these things floating around out there. be careful and look ahead!

While out there this weekend for the derby I saw trees everywhere from Martinez over to McAvoys. Some of them were BIG. Listening to the guys running around at full speed in the dark was amazing.

This one passed by us during the super bowl derby at the mbf, came pretty close. We estimated it to be about 18-20ft long.

It would be nice to implement an app where sniffers can report things like this. I'm thinking: Logs, debris, heavy fog, accidents, status of salinity gates and things like that...
Maybe using a map based application or even just a dedicated area in the forum...
Just a thought I had :)
