Went on a guided sturgeon trip in my buddies boat to Monte. Fished the last of the flood up in Suisun slough for no action. Move into Monte on the turn around. Setup in an area on the shallow side since it looked like a long and strong outgo. Baiting up with eel and some roe I cured. Buddy hooks a 30 in. shaker on the eel. Not long after as he was glassing the shore his other rod goes off. I yell at him as I grab his pole and attempt to set the hook, he takes over and it peels 50 yds. instantly the line goes dead? Half hour later my rod starts doing the dino dance. As I pick it up it's taking off, I set the hook and the rod stays right there. Set the hook again and it explodes up river. By the time my buddy clears the deck it's heading for the anchor rope. He pulls the anchor and the line is wrapped around it. I hand him my pole as I move up the bow. Somehow he managed to free the line and the fight continues. We chased it up down and sideways a mile from where we started three times to the boat before we were able to release it! Estimate it was 7+, since it was at least the length of my pole, 50 min. on the stick with the roe. We returned to the same spot and my buddy gets hooked up on as big or bigger. It peeled off close to 150 yds of line and smoked his reel. The line guide stripped out and made a ball of yarn on his reel. It finally knotted up and the sturg snapped his line even as we tried chasing it! http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/15/d4b43c07b2ea50182897f01c29c8d7bc.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/15/a6a0acbd779d5e9defe3f82e745f6117.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/15/88ff0a3383b9d9666400d757c8c3c99e.jpgbtw, my buddy is no photographer?

Great day on the water and thanks for the photos and information. The exact reason why we chase these beautiful monsters over and over again.

Great report, well done. I think your friend taught mine how to take pictures.
