Marv and I went up to my old stomping grounds to do just that. Stomp some granite. Left at 4:20am and got to our area by Kennedy Meadows by 6:05. The water is a bit off color from the thunderstorms but not enough to be a deterrent. Water levels are at July levels which is sad but it does make it fishable early.

First hole I throw a Thomas B and get a wild small trout. I throw a grasshopper jig for a bit with no love then decide to try pink for the off color water. Get a hit and can feel itís a good fish but nothing special. That is until it gets closer to me and I canít raise the fish to the surface. I thought it was tangled on something but then felt the pull of the fish. Landed this great fish. Has to be four pounds not sure. Big tail and the colors didnít come through on the pic that well. This is a great holdover for sure. (Disclaimer. I didn't realize how I held the trout's mouth in the pic. Mad at self and almost didn't post cause of it. Fish was successfully released just fine)

I was catching them here and there but not a hot bite. Marv was struggling a bit then finally got on board with a nice one.

At this same hole we both caught a couple but then I get a better fish. A real dark male came in on my line and was milting all over the place.

A snow flower coming through the needles. Saw quite a few actually.

Kept scratching out a fish here and there during the day. Caught a few wild small trout that were very pretty. Here is one Marv caught.

I even caught a brookie though I failed to get a pic. Was small as well.
We were going to call it quits since we have been going since 3:30 and I was just barely getting over a bad cold. But Marv suggested a stop that we did last year and it was a good call. We got like 10 fish or so out of this hole and the average size went up.

Best bait this day was eggs. Jigs didnít do well for me this time. Marv used worms and caught some as well as a variation of spinners. He did have a small white swimbait like for bass that got hammered but the fish came off. Then he snagged the SB and lost it so couldnít keep experimenting. I did have some hits on a gulp minnow too but didnít work it enough.

Final count was 19 trout for me and 8 for Marv.

Cheers!

Wonderful day with beautiful fish. Nice one Doug. A hold over that size in a river is rare.

 no further comment... well, I suppose I should admit that it's true, depending on where you are.
but shhhhh... Captain, somebody might be reading this! may this entire thread drift to the back pages like my worm drifting lazily downstream just before those rarities make their move...
:cool:Way to go, Doug! some very nice fish, great pics as usual... :trout:

...and I am jealous as hell! My next opportunity may come this weekend, depending on what Mother's Day shapes up to be. I probably will have to choose between (a) drive down I-80 through half the B.A. to bring my Mom a nice gift, then turn around and get back late, wired and stressed; or (b) cruise up Hwy 108 with Rosie as my copilot, doing what we want when we want to... exploring and fishing and getting all worn out. Well, that's a hard choice for an old fisher to have to make.

Fun day of fishing. Even though we had to work for them. Glad we missed the snow.

Wife and I rode up to Sand Flat and Pinecrest today...caught nothing! Didn't even SEE any fish! (Saw one fish at Pinecrest, which LOOKED like a huge catfish!)

How was the water level at Pinecrest? Usually plenty of planter action at that lake.

Water level was decent...saw a TON of people fishing, but only saw ONE fish caught (and it was a dink)
