Me and the family were in Carmichael for a couple days helping my wife's grandmother with some stuff around her house. Friday evening we had a couple hours free so I took my boys out to see if we could land a few shad on the AR. I had read up on how to fish for them and had even caught a few by accident on my home river, the stanislaus, but had never actually fished for them. Got some info from some people online that gave us a few spots to try. We were having a rough go at first, I was the only one to hook up with 2 for the first couple hours while some other people around us were catching fish pretty steadily. A couple helpfull fellow fishermen hooked us up with the proper color grubs and showed us the proper drift techniques and pretty soon we were on them too! The last 30 mins before we left it was almost a hook up on every cast! Me and the kids had a blast and we will definitely do it again! Not sure if the guys who helped us out are on here and I gorget their names but if you guys are on here thanks again for the help!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170612/69f39cc389ca1b7900c62a8e47ca6a7e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170612/9363d058eec96a18337519d49cdd28fb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170612/4f1bc06d46ace277190f9700bc6ca9fa.jpg

Can you use them for striper bait?

Shhhh no... stripers like cut sardines and jumbo minnows. Definitely don't use small male shad ...especially during low light...bridled with a 9/0 circle hook....maybe a balloon 5' up

Sometimes you can flyline the live shad for stripers. Sometimes it's nice to control your depth with a party balloon blown up about 10" diameter. It works as a bobber, but is easily removed for netting. At night, you can put the 1" crappie glowsticks in the balloon so you can see where your baits swimming

If I can remember right my ol' friend BigAnt was the shad king around these parts. He knew how to slay them.

Haven't been out to knights landing for a couple years now. Over crowded and trash everywhere most of the time

It's sad to hear but it's becoming common everywhere what has happen to people's respect for the outdoors and mankind for that matter. Well anywho i crew up fishing knights landing with my dad catfishing on the river at nights and crappie during the days. I beleive I had my first mosquito bite and s'mores on that shoreline lol
