Hey Guys,

Looking to do some Lincod fishing out toward HMB. I have seen guys on Youtube catching sandabs for bait and drifting for giant Lings. Has anyone tried this? How do you get the dabs, which baits to use?

One uses Sabiki lures tipped with a small piece of squid. I place a weight at the front as well as at the trailing line.
Catch about a dozen per crew member and have fun.

Do you just rig them up on a 3 way swivel and drift them like fishing for halibut? What size hooks and weight?

Do a youtube search using "Sabiki"

Sorry, I meant how to rig the sandabs for bait after they have been caught.

As mentioned, "youtube". Here's one that hooks Flounder but same/same as Sand Dabs.

I've used sabikis for sanddabs, like just two weekends ago. Here is my advice, ditch the sabiki and use some #4 khale hooks, tied every 8-10" on at least 25-30lb test. The sanddabs are not hook shy, and it will make getting the hooks out fast and easy. The reason for the heavier test is they dabs will spin when retrieved, a small pound test will be a twisted nightmare. While I would to have had release it a big fish (I assume ling) grabbed my sabiki (well the dab that was on it) and broke me off. I like 10 hooks or so with a small 1/4 oz weight at the top. Squid strips.

Cool video! Thanks! I'll give it a try!

Rig the sand dabs with a single hook through the lips, and a trailer trouble hook in the side. Make sure there is slack between the two Hooks so the sanddab can swim freely and doesn't curl from the tension between the Hooks. Caught these lings a few weeks ago on sanddabs.

Those pictures are inspirational! Hopefully, I can be half as lucky and get a chance at one of those big lings!
