Heading up to Lake Almanor this weekend for the first time. Any helpful hints or tips would be grateful.

Two good sources: Almanor Fishing Adventures fishing report, and Almanor Fishing Association fishing report. Looks like they're doing pretty well right now.

Great lake to fish. Don't need to over think it. Lots of placed hold fish, southeast shoreline is a good place to start. Websites above are very helpfull and Chester has a good sporting goods store with helpful staff.

Most traditional worm rigs trolled work as does hardware. Dodger power minnow mimics the pond smelt in there, and browns love a rapalas trolled quickly.

Just a few options. Great place, you should have fun. Let us know how you do.

The lake is turning over.

Find the pond smelt and you will find the fish. Slow troll, 1 mph, pond smelt imitations. If you cannot get them to go on the slow stuff, then switch over to fast trolling, 2.2-2.8, speedy shiners or needlefish.

Good luck, and enjoy your trip.

Fished Almanor Tues. 23rd. C&R six fish in about four hrs. Only one dink, four nice rainbows, two browns. Trolled white needlefish down around 27 feet at about 2.8 mph. Surface temp. about 58F.
Good luck!!
