It really depends on where you are fishing. If you are in a slough or the river I prefer cut sardine or chicken livers. In a lake its nightcrawlers and for the port of sac I would use clams. Thats just my chioce. JIM D.

We try to bring a little of everything . Where we fish alot is nothing but clam beds but we've tried clams and have'nt done well with them do better with liver then anything.

Funny thing guys , my fishin partener was talking to some guys the other day and they had cleaned some of there fish , when they gutted them they found nothing but field MICE in those fishs guts. HINT HINT*

Thanks Jim *:) Holly, I'm pretty sure I clicked the "post" button. Weird.

Some people like dip baits and dough baits, but those treble hooks are really tough on the fish. What I find works best are nightcrawlers and cut bait fish; bluegill, squawfish, both threadfin shad and the shad that are running up the delta right now, etc. For cats up to 5 pounds I find nightcrawlers work better. For big cats use a 5/0 - 7/0 octopus hook with a 2-3 inch piece of bait. Here's a good way to put your bait on the hook http://www.fishsniffer.com/cgi-bin/forumsyabb/YaBB.pl?num=1112399890/0

Good luck!

Crawdads with their legs ripped off!! And a little shot of that oil makes them irresistible to bigger fish.
