i hit don pedro yesterday and there were big cats everywhere on top of the water. i usually don't fish for them but i had my new rod and wanted to catch something on it so i tossed a nitecrawler out and in about 20min i caught a small 3lb cat. the ones i some had to be at least 10+ and they were everywhere. i really came for bass so wasn't prepared for stink bait fishing.

so the question is, how do i target the ones on top?

I would try using a bober. You can get cured bait at walmart that will last for ever. You can get anything from minnows to nightcrawlers to shad to anchovies. I always keep one with me at all times in the tackle box just in case i run out of bait or if i didn't bring bait and something like that happens.

When I see cats jumping around and being very active a noisy lure like a Rat-L-Trap will piss em off enough to bite or they'll bite out of curiousity. Or they could be spawning. If they were spawning then don't plan on them biting cuz they have something else on their mind :-*

so do you know if they are spawning then?

I'm not sure. We're they running along the bank alot? You can usually see a group of males following/fighting over a nice female along the banks when they're in the mood.
