I just recently received a new abu garcia ambassadeur5500c3
bait casting reel for my birthday from my friends (engraved). But I dont have a pole to go with it, whats a good match for it? I'm not looking to spend a S load on it.
I'll be useing it mainly on the river for salmon.

terry,
How much can you spend for a rod? There are so many kind of river salmon rods out there $50 to $370.

;DTerry take a look at the ugly stick lite in the 8' 6" length. These rods will take any thing a salmon in the river will dish out. I use one my self with a 6500 c3 and have never had a problem with the rod I have had to redrag my reel. Plus they are very afordable. The model to look at is CA 1186-2MH. Trust me you can't go wrong with your rod and this reel combo. July 16th is the opener in the Sacramento. Hope to see you there.

Take a good look at Vance's Rods on www.vancestackle.com
He just came out with a 8'6" salmon rod. You just can't go wrong with vance's stuff.

Thanks for all the advice. My dad dug up a old pole frome his stash of umpteen rods thats going to work (Hopefully).
I just have to put new guides on and rewrap, there are no markings to tell what kind of pole it is but it looks like a early grafite rod, O boy a new project.

may you eat fish,

Terry. ;D

The 8'6" Ugly Stick will probably cost you less than rebuilding an old rod, Wal Mart carries them, can't beat that rod for the price ;D

I'd double the Clarus. Awesome rod for a great price and warranty is great. For salmon I like the action on the rods also.
