Has anyone used the Shimano Convergence/Clarus/Compre rods? I'm wondering what the main difference is for the same weight/action rod as you move up in price. The price is $39.99, $59.99 and $79.99 for the 3 models listed above.

The clarus uses IM7 graphite, I think the compre uses IM8, I don't know about the convergence. I have to clarus rods and like them alot, more then the compres I looked at. I don't know if it's true but I heard that the clarus rods use the gloomis GL2 blanks and the eyes and reel seats are applied somewhere else. ???

I have 3 clarus rods that I absolutely love. Light and sensitive w/ the power to haul in big fish. I highly recommend them.

The Convergence rod is one of the older models. I have one that I use for black bass and stripers and it's pretty good. I paid 5 or 6 years ago what the Clarus costs now! >:( It's an O.K. rod, but I would definately go with the Clarus rod now-G.Loomis GL2 blanks for that price? You can't beat it. Your getting much more sensitivity in that rod for the money, IMO. ;D

Thanks for the comments. I ended up ordering the 6.6' Clarus medium light / fast action baitcasting rod. Should be perfect for bass fishing.

Shimano is the way to go. All my reels are Shimano and my rods are G-Loomis.

They're available at a local tackle shop near you! They cannot be found at the chain store like Sportmart or Big 5.
